Globe amaranth cultivation report

This is the seeds of the thousand-day crepe. The seeds look like they’re inside a citrus fruit, but what makes them special is that they have feathers, or rather fluff, on their bottoms.

Globe amaranth seeds are small but full of energy! I put a little seed on my head, and a new sprout immediately appeared.

It has grown so much in two weeks since I planted the seeds. Leaves turn green. However, the stems are bright red and are called Globe amaranth.

Look at how fast this grows!

This is the shape of the leaves of Globe amaranth. It’s long and thin, and a little fluffy.

As if I had been waiting for the two leaves to fully grow, new leaves have begun to appear!

Lift up, lift up! The leaves are getting bigger and bigger.

Before I knew it, a lot of leaves were growing to fill the space left by the growing height…

There are already buds! It looks like a jewel. Like ruby and citrine…

The red flowers bloomed first. The part of the red flower that looks like a red flower is actually not a flower, but a modified leaf called a bract. The small yellow flowers that can be glimpsed inside the red bracts are the flowers.

The second one is red!

Pink is beautiful too! The yellow flower part is a fashionable accent that looks like earrings.

White also bloomed! The yellow flower part is a cute accent.

When the heat finally hits, the vibrant Globe amaranth flowers start blooming all at once, just as the surrounding plants are feeling a little tired and lose their vitality.

It has increased a lot! Once Globe amaranth blooms, it continues to bloom without withering, so the number of flowers will increase by the number of flowers that bloom later.

As the number increases, so does the flower stalk, so it’s like a bunch of lollipops.

Red, white, and pink lollipops fill a summer garden. It’s like coming to a fairyland.

As August draws to a close, we begin preparing to produce seeds little by little from the first flowers that bloom.

Seeds will begin to form soon. The bottom of the flower bracts gradually turn white.

The seeds are tightly wrapped inside the flower bracts, so it is quite difficult to collect just the seeds. Usually, it remains wrapped in bracts and burrows into the soil and germinates again.

Globe amaranth does not bloom for 1,000 days, but continues to bloom for 100 days. Even in late autumn, the flowers are still in full bloom.

Globe amaranth continues to bloom until the end of the year, turning completely white and ending its life. See you next year!
